Just Do It!
1 Corinthians 9:27 “Like an athlete I punish my body, treating it roughly, training it to do what it should, not what it wants to. Otherwise I fear that after enlisting others for the race, I myself might be declared unfit and ordered to stand aside.” (LB)
Paul shows in today’s scripture that physical fitness is key to destiny manoeuvres. So, we will kick off our time in God’s presence today by looking at the four main types of exercise. This information is in the public domain,
so I encourage you to also check it out for yourself. The four key areas you need to work on are Endurance, Strength, Balance, And Flexibility. When you work out, be deliberate about picking routines that work on your endurance, strength, balance, and flexibility. Then keep at it and before you know it, you are healthy and fit. Experts tell us that all exercise is movement, but not all movement is exercise.
You have to move your body particularly if your work is sedentary. You have to get up and move your body. Did I hear you just say you do not have forty-five minutes three or four times a week? The truth, like they say, is any exercise is better than no exercise. Just do something while you are working on that consistent plan. If you miss the plan, just do something consistently. I have had several people ask me how I exercise and how long I exercise. It will shock you, but I do not exercise for hours and hours. I just do it consistently. There is no doubt that the widow in 2 Kings 4 was energetic. Exercise increases your energy level.
Many people cannot just get on the floor and play with their children because in less than three minutes they will be worn out. Meanwhile, the child or children want to keep going—thirty minutes, one hour, and for some children they can play all day. Meanwhile, after two minutes the parent is done and out, zero energy. You need to exercise. Do I get an Amen? Many people struggle with sleep. Regular exercise, they say, also helps you sleep better. So, when you exercise regularly, consistently and with the right intensity, you actually sleep better. What does sleep have to do with anything? Rest is a big part of fitness.
One of the bad habits is not resting, and not sleeping. You stay awake watching series on streaming platforms. Meanwhile, you know you have to go to work the next day. You cannot be optimal if you keep doing this. You are always on social media watching reels, watching who is doing this or saying that. You cannot cope. You need to do something. You need to rest. Your body needs to rejuvenate. You need to be fit. And if all you get from today’s devotional is that you need to rest, then you need to rest. If you find out that by eleven in the morning you are already tired, you cannot work, you are already checking the time, every second feels like an hour, it is a pointer that you need to rest.
Prayer: Father, I ask for the grace and the strength to discipline my body in exercise and rest consistently so that I can secure my limitless future, in Jesus Name. Amen!
