Fail-safe
Isaiah 43:2 “When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up—the flames will not consume you.” (LB, emphasis added).
God’s third guarantee for your future is To Support You In Trouble. Is temptation, not trouble? No, temptation is not trouble. Temptation is internal; trouble is external. Temptation is about your character. Trouble is about your circumstances. People say, “Now that I am a Christian shouldn’t everything in my life be perfect?” No, this is not heaven. Everything will not be perfect until you get to heaven. Have you noticed that everything is broken in this world? The weather is broken. The economy is broken. Relationships are broken everywhere. Why? It is because of sin and because of the poor choices of men.
I was talking to a lady who is close to forty, and she was telling me about someone she was seeing—a really responsible man. So naturally, I was happy that she was going to get married soon. Then she said, “Pastor, I have to send him away.” “Why, what did he do?” I asked. “I just cannot do this.” “Okay, tell me what the issue is.” And after much cajoling, she finally said, “Pastor, he is from a broken home! I cannot marry a man who is from a broken home.” My first thought was, really? But I said to her, “My sister, every home is broken”. “I reject that in Jesus Name!”, she said. I said, “Listen, let me explain. Every human being is broken. Two broken people coming together in a marriage, you are going to have a broken situation.”
“But Pastor, my parents remained married for life.” “Those are the heroes and that is how it is supposed to be. We are supposed to stick together in our brokenness. However, for those who did not and those who did, everybody is broken. It is now your decision and his decision to stick it out. And that is when your children can be proud of you and say, my dad and mom stuck it out.” Do I get an Amen? We see in Isaiah 43:2-3 “…When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up—the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord your God…” (LB, emphasis added).
God assures and guarantees to support you in trouble. Note that God did not say you will not get wet. You will get wet, but you will not drown. God did not say you would not get hot or uncomfortable. God says that it will not burn you up.
Prayer: Father, I stand on Your guaranteed support in trouble, because You keep Your Word, therefore I will not be afraid or overwhelmed, in the Mighty Name of Jesus. Amen!
