John 10:10 “But I came to give life… so that my sheep will have life—life that is full and good, and so that they will have everything they need.” (GW & ERV)

Today, I will share an experience with you that illustrates this concept of abundant life. When I was in paid employment, I used to do a lot of international travel. However, I had not yet experienced sitting in first class. I just pass through the first class cabin and see all the nice things that have been displayed. I go to my seat, telling myself that it does not matter if it is first class or economy. Afterall, we are landing at the same time. Prior to this particular trip, I was going through some financial difficulty. I had rent issues, and my own share of challenges.

However, I was on the check-in queue, and for some reason, they upgraded me to first class. My first thought was, is there a catch? But I took it, went in, and sat down. Interestingly, once you are in first class, no one can tell who was or was not upgraded. We all sat down and crossed our legs. We were served drinks even before the plane took off. The blankets in first class made the blankets in economy look like rags. I had to admit to myself that, yes, we all land at the same time, but the journey in first class is more enjoyable. I just used to console myself that everyone will land at the same time. However, while one person is landing with cramps, a headache, and body pains. Another person is landing refreshed, has had a shower, and a change of clothes.

The journey in first class is more enjoyable. Sitting in first class did not erase the fact that I had financial obligations and rent to pay when I get back home. Sitting in first class did not mean that the things I was trusting God for suddenly vanished. Sitting in first class did not even shield me from the ups and downs of the plane. If the plane goes through turbulence, you are going through turbulence whether you are in first class or in economy. The truth is sitting in first class does not shield you from the bumps. And that is where a lot of people get things twisted. Sitting in first class, believe it or not, you still arrive at the same time. But guess what? It is a lovelier ride.

So, Pastor, what are you saying. What I am saying is while the circumstances of your life have not changed. The class of your flight can change. Jesus is saying you can be upgraded. Yes, you will still be in this world where there is turmoil, turbulence, and challenges. You will still have the ups and downs that happen to everyone. But guess what? The ride can be lovelier, and that is what abundant life offers.

Prayer: Father, because I have abundant life, my life is lovelier, in Jesus Name. Amen!
