Not Age
Job 32:7-8 “I thought to myself, “Age should speak first; those advanced in years will teach wisdom.” But alas, it turns out it is the spirit in a man, not age, and the breath of the Highest One within him that lends understanding.” (MSG, emphasis added).
Over the next few days, we will be looking at three things that happen to everybody. Things that if handled well will always lead to more. Everybody will experience these things but if they are handled well, they always lead to more. Are you ready? Fasten your seatbelt, we are about to take off. And the first of the three things is AGE. Everyone will age. Everyone will experience aging. It happens to everybody but what you do with age determines whether you end up with more or not. Most times, we assume that certain things come from age and with age. And because we do, we miss certain opportunities. The truth is certain things do not come with age.
On the other hand, there are certain things that will not come except with age. And if you do not understand that you also miss a lot of opportunities. Not everything we think comes with age, comes with age. For instance, wisdom, wisdom does not come with age. Have you heard the saying, a fool at forty? There are people who grow old, but they are not wise. We often wait for older people to speak because we assume that age equals wisdom. I pray that your age will equal wisdom, and that as you grow older, you will get wiser in the Mighty Name of Jesus. But if the concept of wisdom comes with age is what you are waiting on, you most likely will miss a lot of opportunities. For instance, Elihu, the youngest of Job’s friends waited and waited for the older ones to speak to the situation.
And he was burning because the older ones did not have the wisdom required. So, it was wasted time. We often waste time thinking that certain things come with age. But certain things, not everything comes with age. He went on to say in the Book of Job 32:6-8 “…I am young in years, and you are very old; Therefore I was afraid, And dared not declare my opinion to you. I said, ‘Age should speak, And multitude of years should teach wisdom.’ But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.” (NKJV&KJV). In other words, wisdom does not always come with age. You are going to age, but I pray that you will be wise in the Name of Jesus. Some people on the contrary, they become more foolish as they grow older. I have experienced such people; they make horrible decisions as they grow older.
I pray that you will consistently make wise decisions in the Name of Jesus. So do not wait until you grow old, you have the Spirit of God, wisdom lies within you. We grew up hearing people say to us, “You are too young to do this and that”. But if we knew it they were saying, “You are too old to do that and this”. Do not let anyone define you by your age.
Prayer: Father, breathe on me afresh the Spirit of the Lord, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, in the Mighty Name of Jesus. Amen!
