The Tradition Box I

‘And so you cancel the word of God in order to hand down your own tradition. And this is only one example among many others’ Mark 7:13

Jesus died so that we can enter into the fullness of our relationships with God. When God is unleashed in your life, there are heights that He will take you to that if you were to be told now, you probably will doubt. Unfortunately, in our lives there are things that attempt to put God in a box. Things that attempt to restrict the full manifestation of God. Box God meaning, God becomes unable to do all that He really wants to do in our lives [Isa.64:4]. One of such things is tradition. Traditions attempt to put God in the box. Tradition is an inherited, established or customary pattern of doing things. Tradition is not necessarily bad but when tradition runs contrary to God’s Word it becomes a problem. ‘Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven’ Ps.119:89 [KJV]. God’s Word was settled even before our forefathers were born. After this generation passes, the Word of God will remain. So why do we try to frustrate God with our traditions? God and His Word are the same. You cannot separate God from His Word. When God wants to manifest His might He sends His Word because His Word brings His presence. When God wants to do something awesome, He sends His Word. When God wanted to create the heavens and the earth, He sent His Word [Gen.1]. When God wants to heal, He sends His Word. When wanted to save the world, He sent His Word and the Word became flesh [John1:1-5]. When our traditions run contrary to the Word of God, our traditions cancel the Word of God. Our traditions negate, restrict and put a leash on the Word of God. It makes the Word of God of non-effect. Some people think that it is impossible to box God. ‘And so you cancel the Word of God in order to hand down your own tradition. And this is only one example among many others.” Mark 7:13. The truth is that God can be restricted, at least in your life if you allow it. What tradition are you carry on that is restricting God in your life?

Prayer: Father, open my eyes to all the ways I am canceling your Word in my life with tradition. Help me flush out every tradition that is limiting Your flow in my life, in Jesus Name.
