Self-Righteous?
My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to Your decrees. Ps.119:71
I kept myself and got married as a virgin, I’m now married for five years and I don’t have a child. If God were to choose someone to delay childbirth, why me, after all I have been faithful! I know what other girls did in school and yet they got pregnant immediately. Why me? A number of us have experiences that have forced us to question God in this manner. We must be careful however, because this is a question that reveals our self-righteousness. If God loves you, His first response to self-righteous attitudes or mindsets is to shut it down. To show you that except the Lord builds nothing happens. You cannot hinge favour from God on your works, even though it can cause you to get favour from God. Until you understand that it is not by works of righteousness but by His grace alone you will continue to struggle or even nurse anger toward God. It is extremely important that we understand and keep before us daily that ‘it is not of him that willeth nor of him that runneth but of the Lord that shows mercy’. Self-righteousness says ‘because I have done xyz, then I am better than the next person’. Some people who have never experienced pain at one stage or the other go around with a chip on their shoulder and cannot relate with the pain others experience. Never take for granted that because you have sown, then harvest will come. This is a decision reserved solely for God. If you are self-righteous you need to repent today because it attracts affliction. Trials are to propel us closer to God. It is not a guarantee but rather an opportunity for us to come close to God. You and I must break through the clutter of trials and see God who is always willing to help and work things out for our good.
Prayer: Father, I choose to thank You in every situation and trust You for the best. I choose to see You working things out for my good even now, in Jesus Name.
