Spiritual Capacity

‘And now God is building you, as living stones, into His spiritual temple. What’s more, you are God’s holy priests, who offer the spiritual sacrifices that please Him because of Jesus Christ’ 1 Pet.2:5

As physical exercises build physical muscles, so also spiritual exercise build spiritual muscles.  In all sports, there are coaches and athletes. They train together to prepare for the sports ahead. It is only the foolish athlete who will request that his coach trains on his behalf, while he relaxes. Every athlete must discipline himself and train because it is he who will run the race and not his coach. We live in a world where everything is being outsourced. Security outfits, financial companies, oil and gas companies, telecommunication industries etc., all outsource personnel for one service or another. However, with spiritual things it is very different. You cannot outsource your battles. It would be a grave error to carry out this practice in the spiritual world. You cannot outsource your spiritual responsibilities. You cannot mobilize someone to fast on your behalf and expect to grow spiritually. And when you do not grow spiritually, how do you expect to completely experience the victories Christ died for you to have? Scriptures state that ‘…God is building you, as living stones, into His spiritual temple. What’s more, you are God’s holy priests, who offer the spiritual sacrifices that please Him because of Jesus Christ’ 1 Pet.2:5. God can place you on the spiritual thread mill but He will not run on your behalf. The truth is that all that we need to strengthen our spiritual muscles God has made available to us. The other part is in our hands. Life will call on the use of those muscles from time to time and if you have not built them, you will not have them to draw on. It is the same with spiritual food. The scripture your husband has memorized will not jump at you when you are in trouble. It is only what you have within you that can use. Do not take your life casually. Partake in spiritual exercise and build spiritual muscles for your life’s battles. Spiritual battles will come. ‘If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small’ Prov. 24:10.

Thought:  Jesus has done his part. Your spiritual leaders are doing their part.   What about you?

Prayer: Father, help me take responsibility for my spiritual life.
