Please Be With Me

‘…Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request.’1 Chro.4:10

The fourth thing that we can learn from Jabez is that Jabez longed for a relationship with God. He did not stop at asking to be blessed; Jabez went further to ask God to be with him. When a Jew says to the Lord ‘be with me’, he is saying ‘be the Lord of my life and be in control of my life’. God cannot go with you and be your boy. Unless you give Him the place of the boss, He will not go with you. The problem with some of us, is that we want what God can give but we do not want to live for God. We want to use God as a tool to get what we want. We want Jesus as Saviour, Deliverer, Solution provider but we do not want Jesus as Lord, Master, Manager, and our sole Source. You want to be the one driving but you don’t mind Jesus being a passenger seat, but you don’t want Him to drive. And God cannot play a second fiddle to you. Think about it, should He? Jabez wanted God. Jabez wanted to know God. He wanted God to be in charge of his life. A lot of people see the church as a hospital where after they get healed there is no need to return to the hospital. It is because we see God as a consultant and not a Father. Such people do not seek a relationship with the Father. Jabez said ‘please be with me in all that I do’. In essence he was saying Lord be my Master, be my Lord, sit in the driver’s seat, and take charge. No wonder the Bible says ‘and God granted him his request’. Jabez was so blessed that he owned a city that was named after him [1 Chron.2:55]. That is establishment. Jabez in spite of his disadvantaged beginning, trouble in his family, and social stigma; God took him from that to a person that owned a whole city that people were struggling to buy land from him and live in his city. Isn’t God wonderful? I am praying today that inspite of your family challenges, or your disadvantaged position that God will establish you in Jesus Name. His life became a contradiction to his name. Inspite of everything that is working against your destiny, God will bring you to that destiny in Jesus Name. God will establish you.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for the promise of establishment in my life. I believe and I receive it, in Jesus Name.
