Understanding Favour: Response 1

As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. Rom.9:13

When you examine all the cases of rivalry, one common denominator is favour. Either parental favour (which brews bitterness); or divine favour. God has favourites, it may not make sense but it is God’s choice. God wants to teach us to understand favour and as such how to properly respond to favour so that it doesn’t swallow us. Firstly, you need to know that the purpose of favour on an individual in the family is for the benefit of the whole family. God usually would locate one person in the family and pour out spiritual favour, grace, and anointing on that person. It could be financial favour, like Joseph who fed his brothers and their families for years. Whether spiritual or financial, favour is for the benefit of everybody. So if you are the one who is favoured, know this, it is for the benefit of your whole family. If it is one of your siblings that you have discovered is favoured, it is for the benefit of the whole family. Instead of being jealous, enjoy the favour. Being jealous over favour changes nothing, so you stop it. If you are reading this devotional, favour will rest upon you too by God’s grace. Accept it and receive it. David was favoured and his whole family was tax exempt because of that favour. God has favoured your sibling because of you. This is a good way to look at it. There are people who started out being favoured but did not end up with favour because of how they responded. Be humble and ensure that you distribute it. Est.4:14, if the person that is favoured in your house refuses to help you, believe me, help will come from another source. God is your Source, He will raise help.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for Your favour upon my life and my family. The grace to glorify You with the favour in my life I ask for by the power of Your Spirit.

  1. No one can ever do anything to merit favor. If God has favored you, it is because He chose to favour you.
Rejoice with them that rejoice. If God favours someone beside you, rejoice with them and the favour of that person will rub off on you. God can decide to favour you too and He will because the fact that we wake up every morning is great favour.

  2. Understanding favour takes the Holy Spirit! Seek to respond like Jabez did and face God for your own. When you are blessed, seek to bless…

  3. There is nothing I have that I have not received!

  4. Favour is a gift and like every gift it comes with some form of responsibility. A classic example is Esther. How we respond to favour determines whether we remain candidates for more favour or not. We should not allow our focus to be deterred because of any favour we may have received.

  5. Great Post Sir, clear, succinct and simply to understand. The point made about those favoured are favoured for other people’s sakes is humbling. It is a point every favoured person should hold close to the heart.
