How to be Spiritually Rich I

“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone’ Matt.25:14

Many times we go through life wondering from one post to another and not really taking hold of life on purpose the way God would have us. From the Parable of the Three Servants [Matt.25:14-30], we can learn how to be spiritually rich. Even though this story literally is talking about money, yet we can apply it to spiritual wealth and learn how to become spiritually rich. Through applying this story also we can learn how to be financially rich, maritaly rich, and relationally rich. Over the next few days we are going to be exploring lessons from the parable of the three servants and applying it to how to be spiritually rich.

Lesson 1: God is not prodigal. He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip’ Matt.25:15. The first thing that jumps out at us is that God is not prodigal. God is not wasteful with His resources. It is for this reason that God gave five talents to one, two talents to another, and one talent to the last one. It was not because God was showing favoritism. Not at all. The reason is because God does not want to waste His resources. God distributed the talents ‘dividing it in proportion to their abilities’. The King James Version puts it this way ‘according to their several abilities’. The spiritually rich person knows that God is not prodigal with His resources so they have built capacity to receive what God has to offer. The spiritually poor person on the other hand would not care less. The spiritually poor person would say ‘que-sera-sera, whatever will be will be so why bend over backwards to build capacity’. The truth is that building capacity can be strenuous. The spiritually rich understand that God will pour into you as long as you can receive.

Prayer: Lord, I ask for the grace to look beyond the now and to build capacity for all that You are about to do in me, through me, and with me; in Jesus Name.
