Make Jesus Your Centerpiece
‘Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness’ Col 2:7.
The third step to growing personal roots is to make Jesus the center of your life. Jesus is known as the root of David. In other words without Jesus, David is nothing. Jesus should be the root of your life; otherwise, without Jesus you are nothing. Examine your life; if you take away Jesus can you still function? Some people can. If you can still function without Jesus, then Jesus is not the center of your life. Jesus is not your root. I am praying that He will become your root today. People are used to using Jesus a lot. They use Him to get cars, a spouse, a child, business breakthrough and so much more. To such people, Jesus has become a tool to get what they want instead of a root [the source of their survival]. The problem with this however is if you are not careful, you will consistently have a pattern of making Jesus a means to an end. Jesus should not just be a means to an end; Jesus is the end. It is all about Jesus! Martha, the sister of Mary, said to Jesus in John 11, ‘if you had been here my brother would not have died’. In other words, Jesus we have been using you for healing but this time around you were slow. And Jesus said ‘don’t you understand, I am the Resurrection and the Life’. Many times if you want to know if you have been using Jesus for stuff then check how you feel when Jesus does not do what you want Him to do when you want Him to do it. Is your reaction ‘how dare He’ or do you feel ‘I am going to give you one more chance Lord or else’. Your reaction is what tells you if you have been accustomed to using Jesus or not. I once heard a lady say ‘I have been a good girl but if God does not bring my husband this year I cannot guarantee’. How do you respond when the things that you are trusting God for appear to be delaying? How you respond shows whether you have grown accustomed to using Jesus. If you have then you must repent today and turn things around. Make Jesus your root and He alone will supply all your needs in His time.
Prayer: Father, I repent of every time I have used You to get stuff knowing or unknowingly. Today Lord, I declare that You alone are my root, my source, and my center piece, in Jesus Name.
