Beyond What We Can Get

Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ’ Col.2:8.

A lot of people have attempted to enthrone Jesus only because of what they can get from Him. That is not the kind of relationship God is proposing. God wants you to know Him and just because of what He can do for you but because of who He is. After Jesus fed the multitudes in the Bible they sought to make Him president but Jesus escaped [John 6]. When He was ascending Peter said ‘when will you restore the kingdom to Israel’. Jesus answered ‘that is left to the Father’. It is all in God’s hands. It is He who determines what you get and when you get it. The disciples on the way to Amos [Please read Luke 24:13-35], their hope and trust was not in the person of Jesus but it was in Jesus solving their most pressing national issue. Even as a nation Nigeria, we have a lot of people who are upset at the church because in their opinion Jesus should have led the ‘occupy Nigeria’ rally. Really? God has a better plan. People get offended because they are used to using Jesus to get what they want. And when Jesus does not dance to their tune then He can go away. That kind of attitude shows you where you are with God. Again if this has revealed the state of your heart to you, repent quickly and come back to God. Our faith must go beyond what we can get from Jesus. Our faith must be anchored on who Jesus is. It is in Him that all the assurances rest; the assurance of a hope and a future; the assurance of restoration; the assurance of protection and provision; the assurance that your dream will surely come to pass. Take your eyes off what Jesus can do for you now and keep your eyes fixed on the One who never fails. ‘For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority’ Col.2:9-10. If you have been serving God only for what you can get, change it today. The gift can only last for so long but with the giver you never run out of gifts. You have to know God for who He is.

Prayer [song]: ‘Holy Ghost; do it again, do it again in my life. Open my eyes to see Jesus, seated upon the throne. Open my eyes to see Jesus, seated upon the throne’
