Family Finances

‘Wisdom is even better when you have money. Both are a benefit as you go trough life. Wisdom and money can get you almost anything but only wisdom can save your life’ Ecc.7:11-12

Marriage is God’s gift of two to us because the Bible states clearly that two are better than one. Money is good but wisdom can save your life. Wives listen to your husbands and husbands listen to your wives. What they say could very well save your life. We must also remember that marriage is God’s gift to us here on earth. Scripture says there is no marriage in heaven, so make the best of this gift while you are here and glorify God by leveraging the strength of two that He has given you. You do not have to see eye to eye in everything to walk hand in hand. There is wisdom in a variety of perspectives to things. For instance, women are very big on financial security while men on the other hand can be into high-risk investments. So a woman may find comfort in knowing that there is something put away for the family in savings but for the man he believes that you can turn around any situation. Such women usually want to know if it is acceptable for them to save for the home. I do not think there is anything wrong with you saving for the good for the family. And I do not see any reason why any husband will be angry about his wife’s decision to secure things for the family. Understand that women are wired differently and she sleeps better knowing there is provision for the children.

Then with projects that both of you agree to undertake it is important for there to be transparency. For example, something as simple as sending financial aid to parents. Some women feel their husband is either not sending enough or he is being partial when it comes to his own family. Husband be transparent with your wife. Again this is something you need to sit and agree on. It might be that he has assessed the need in both cases and decided that one party needs more financial aid. If as his wife you decide to send a little extra to your own parents then be transparent about it.  Make sure it’s not a hide and seek kind of thing and he won’t have a problem with that. If he does then maybe you want to keep discussing it till he is comfortable with it.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, I submit my marriage to You totally and I submit myself within the marriage to Your counsel and leading. Guide and teach us, in Jesus Name.
