Be Humble!

‘The humble will see their God at work and be glad. Let all who seek God’s help be encouraged’ Ps.69:32.

God gives grace to the humble and resists the proud! This is how it works, if you try to exalt yourself, God will find a way to humble you. And if you try to humble yourself, God will find a way to exalt you. Now you and I know that if God is looking for a way He will find a way, whichever way! If you choose the path of humility God will exalt you! I read a book a while back that changed my life and I want to recommend the book to you as well. When you see the invisible, you can do the impossible by Oral Roberts. I read this book and it sparked a flame on my walk with God. One of the parts in this book that stuck out to me the most was where he narrated an episode with his mum and she was saying to him ‘Oral, God is going to make you very great. God is going to make you very mighty. Oral be small in your own eyes’. So I keep saying to myself ‘be small in your own eyes!’ When I say to folks that I’m just a small boy usually they get very upset. When I say that I am a small boy, I’m not saying it so I can look humble. No don’t get me wrong, I’m saying it because that it is how I have chosen to see myself. Without Jesus no one ever heard of the donkey again. The truth is that without Jesus we are nothing. God wants to bless you in a way that will dumbfound you! But for a lot of us just a little promotion and we start behaving badly. May God give us all the grace to remain humble.

There are two major differences between the proud and the humble. Proud people are more concerned about the consequences of their sin while humble people are grieved about the root cause of their sin. A proud person is more concerned about how much punishment and embarrassment he will get. Saul is a typical example. He had sinned before God but he was more concerned about how he will look before the people. David on the other hand went straight to God pleading for mercy [Psalm 51]. I want to encourage you to learn how to pray Psalm 51 in your local dialect. And time and again pray it to God from your heart and watch God transform you.

Prayer: ‘Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin’ Ps.51:1-2 [KJV].
