Get Rid Of It!

Ephesians 4:31-32 “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (NIV, emphasis added)

So, how do I get rid of bitterness? I need this baggage out of my life because it is stripping me of the grace of God in my life. How do I kill the root of bitterness? I am glad you asked. To get rid of all bitterness, we do what the Bible says in our anchor scripture. The first is Kill Bitterness With Compassion. Ephesians 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another…”. (NIV, emphasis added). Before you consider that course of action, the question is, is it kind? You cannot stop how they have treated you, or how they will treat you. But you can choose to be kind and to be compassionate. Romans 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (NIV, emphasis added). You overcome evil with good.

I am going to recommend a decision I have made to you. And my decision is, if I am going to make a mistake about other people, let me err on the side of believing the best in people. I would rather err on the side of believing the best in people and be proved wrong. And I have been proved wrong many times over. Still, I would rather err in believing the best in people and let them prove me wrong, than believing the worst in people. Always choose to believe the best in people. Luke 6:28 Bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” (NIV). One of the best ways to show compassion is to pray for someone that hurts you.

Someone said, ‘Okay, but God did not give us the prayer point.’ I hear you, however, when someone hurts you, pray for them. Jesus said, “Father forgive them, for they don’t know what they do”. The only person that needs to die for you to be saved died over two thousand years ago. You and I do not need to die for anybody to be saved. So where am I going with this? Simple, do not allow any witch to use you for testimony. That is what my grandmother would say. If you allow any witch to kill you, and then they repent down the line. God will forgive them, but you will be gone. But you just told us to pray for those who hurt me, so how do we navigate this?

It is pretty simple. We learn from the best in the scriptures – David, Jesus. David wrote Psalm 35 when Saul was after his life. Like David portrayed in Psalm 35, you need to take a spiritual posture that anyone who wants to destroy your destiny will not succeed. And if they insist, they will die. That is the spiritual posture. I have no apologies for that, and you should not too. Anyone that insists that you will not fulfil your destiny, will not fulfil their own destiny. If anyone will go down, it will not be you in the Name of Jesus.

Prayer: Father, oppose those who oppose me, fight those who fight me, in Jesus Name. Amen! (Psalm 35:1).
