Full Measure

Luke 6:38Give to others, and God will give to you. Indeed, you will receive a full measure, a generous helping, poured into your hands—all that you can hold. The measure you use for others is the one that God will use for you.” (GNT)

In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, what you receive will be full measure. It will be pressed down. It will be shaken together. Even though it is pressed down and shaken together,it will still run over and be poured into your lap. Weeks ago, I shared with you how I used to follow my grandmother to the market. I have seen this picture painted by this scripture over and over again. My grandmother is buying let’s say grains, and they have put the measure into the sack. My grandmother asks the seller to put something extra. So, they start shaking it and pressing it down to create room for more.

But unlike us persuading the seller to add extra, God is saying you do not need to beg Him to add extra. He will keep adding extra until what is pressed down and shaken together begins to run over. And He will still not stop until it falls on your lap. That is huge! Pastor, can this be real? Yes, God wants to give you more than your sack can hold. And that is what pressed down, shaken together, and running over means. The New Century Version of Luke 6:38 highlights something really important, something we need to pay attention to when it comes to giving.

Luke 6:38Give, and you will receive. You will be given much. Pressed down, shaken together, and running over, it will spill into your lap. The way you give to others is the way God will give to you.” (NCV, emphasis added). Yes, the seed you sow will determine your harvest. The quality of the seed will determine the quality of the harvest. All these things are part of the way. The way you sow is broken down into firstly, the Quantity of what you sow (a handful or a whole bag), the harvest is going to be different (all other things being equal). Secondly, the Quality of what you sow. If you sow seeds that have been eaten by maggots, it is not going to produce anything. Thirdly, your Attitude in how you sow, that is, how generous your heart is towards others. So, quantity, quality, and attitude are the things that constitute the way you give. So, God will give you quantity, quality, and abundantly with joy. The heart is so important in giving.

Prayer: Father, I pray that the way I give will always be pleasing to You and will bring glory to Your Name, and my harvest will be bountiful, in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen!
