Acknowledge I
‘Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture’ Ps.100:3
Over the next few days we are going to learn from Psalm 100, the keys to being grateful. Who better to learn how to be grateful from than David himself. For the Lord is good and His mercy endures forever and ever. Honoring our parents is one of the things that we strongly advocate in God’s Favourite House. The story is told of a man who always buys his father a very unique father’s day gift. Some of the gifts are quite expensive, others not so expensive, but always unique. One particular year, the man got his father a bird that had been trained in Mexico to speak five languages and sing ‘Amazing Grace’. The man paid ten thousand dollars for the bird and sent it to his father. After a few days, when he was sure the bird would have been delivered, he called his father to find out what he felt about his gift. And the father said, “It was delicious” – his father had eaten the bird. Funny right? But this is how a lot of us respond to God.
‘Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture’ Ps.100:3. If you do not know and acknowledge God for who He is, you will try to use Him for what you think He should be. The first step in thanksgiving is to acknowledge God for who He is. The first step to being grateful is acknowledgment. ‘Acknowledge that the Lord is God!’ That is the foundation of gratitude. If you don’t know and acknowledge God for who He is, you will try to use God to accomplish your own end. If you don’t know and acknowledge God for who He is, you will think that God is your house help. “Go and get me a husband”; “Go and get me a wife”; “Go and get me a new car”. And if He does not respond, you get angry with Him the same way you get angry at your house help. “Can’t you hear me; I thought they said You are God and You answer prayers?” This is a problem for a lot of people because like that man he saw the bird and questioned – can it be roasted, will it be sweet? But that was not the function of the bird? A lot of people hear about God and they question – can God answer prayers? Of course He does. Unto Him that answers prayers shall all flesh come.
Prayer: Father, I acknowledge that You are God and all things were created and are sustained by You. I acknowledge that You alone are God, in Jesus Name.
