Unto Thyself Be True I

For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and nightPs.51:3

The fourth thing we need to know about sin is that sin shuts your mouth. You may attempt to sing praises to God and the accuser would refresh your mind about your sin. You can’t praise God. Picture this, David picks up his harp and begins to sing a Psalm unto the Lord and the enemy whispers “Uriah”. David’s lips become sealed. David goes to the balcony and just as he is about to sing another Psalm unto the Lord the enemy whispers “Bathsheba!”. David experienced this and when he finally repented he said, ‘Unseal my lips, O Lord, that my mouth may praise youPs.51:15. Sin seals your lips. Sin is weighty. It makes you inefficient spiritually and casts a shadow over your spiritual clout. I am praying for you today that you will consistently choose to honour God and not rebel against Him. Your actions will wire life and not iniquity into your children. Your joy will not be stolen and your lips will not be sealed because you will operate in the grace that true repentance secures.

True repentance recognizes sin as sin. ‘I recognize my rebellion…’. One reason why a lot of people keep going back to sin repeatedly is because they don’t see sin as sin. They try to paint it in a different light and so call it different names. Just like a man who says he doesn’t understand why his wife is upset with him because he is flirting with another woman. After all, he didn’t do anything but flirt. Even Jesus said that if we look lustfully we have done something [Matt.5:28]. Call a spade a spade. That’s the beginning of your deliverance. Some people pride themselves in telling white lies. A lie is a lie. I hold accountability talks with some Pastors using a series of questions. The question on financial integrity reads something like “Have you told a lie in your financial dealings?” Someone says, “It’s only when it is out of my control”. Guess what the devil will do to such a person. The enemy will keep setting him up with things that he claims are outside his control. Homosexuality for instance, has become so rampant and it started by people not calling a spade a spade. Homosexuality is a sin. If you have a problem with same sex attraction, don’t create an institution around it. Look for help. Jesus can set you free. When you recognize sin as sin, that’s your first step to true repentance.

Prayer [song]: Jesus, I’ve forgotten the words that You have spoken. Promises that burned within my heart have now grown dim. With a doubting heart I follow the paths of earthly wisdom. Forgive me for my unbelief. Renew the fire again. Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy…
