The One
‘And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples and said to Him, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” Matt.11:2-3
Jesus is easily the most dominant figure in all history and He poses the most important question to Peter and to us. ‘…He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” Matt.16:13. Your response to this very important question determines where you will spend eternity. H. G. Wells says, “I am a historian, I am not a believer. But I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all history”. It is not new that people have tried to commonize Jesus but who do you say that Jesus is? Who is Jesus to you? The truth is when you stand at the gate of heaven, what will determine whether you will get in or not is who Jesus is to you.
Mankind in general is consistently trying to fill an emotional void. People are searching for a life partner in the bid to fill that void. For some of us it’s not a quest for love as it were, it’s a quest of deliverance. People are going from place to place seeking a deliverer; doing all sorts of crazy things in the quest for deliverance. You need to know that regardless of the nature of your quest, Jesus is The One. John the Baptist found himself in a peculiar position, Herod had imprisoned him for speaking the truth. So he sent two of his disciples to Jesus to ask, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” And like John many of us have been in tough situations, imprisoned for the things we say or for righteousness. And we are asking Jesus, “Are You The One or are we to expect another deliverer?” I am saying to you today that Jesus is The One. The words “The One” from the original is actually a word Hu Haba, which means He who comes or He who is to come. For every situation you are in, Jesus is He who is to come to meet that need. To the single person out there, Jesus is The One that you are searching for. When you meet your life partner, your life partner becomes number two and Jesus remains The One. For those that are married, I’m sure you have discovered by now that your spouse is not the one. Jesus is The One and your spouse is number two. When you get this, you will stop looking to number two for what only The One can fulfill and free to love your spouse.
Prayer [song]: There is none like You. No one else can touch my heart like You do, I can search for all eternity Lord and find, there is none like You.
