And God Said: Destiny Provoking Name Change
‘Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee… And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be’. Gen 17:5 &15.
God said and God is still saying destiny provoking name change. For some people, God is going to give you a new name because the one you have currently is destiny limiting. Many times people are limited by the names they are carrying and the only way to break free is a name change from the One who knows tomorrow. God had to change Abraham’s name from Abram [high, exalted father] to Abraham [father of a multitude]. The name Abraham each time it was spoken calls forth his prophetic destiny. Your name also needs to be a prophecy, a carrier of your prophetic destiny. God took Jacob on a journey which caused him to experience God as his destiny source. Jacob in a sense developed fruits of the Spirit in this process and then God changed his name from Jacob [supplanter, schemer, trickster, and swindler] to Israel [contender with God] [Gen.28-33]. Know also that sometimes, people who are connected to your destiny must also experience a name change so that they can also key into God’s prophetic plan. After God had changed Abraham’s name, God also had to change Sarai to Sarah [Princess] because she will be the mother of nations. Some of us have good names but are yoked with people who have bad names. Some people just have friends whose middle name is ‘addiction’; such friends have covenanted to take them to hell. You have to forsake their company and be yoked with Jesus. If you are not married to such a person, change your company. If you are married to such a person, then pray that God will change their name. If you are yoked with the wrong person, God will change their names for your sake today. Prayerfully speak to God about your name and ask Him to make yours a prophetic name.
Prayer: God of the living, do for me as You did with Abraham and Israel. Help me to understand the prophetic nature of my name and by Your Spirit help me live out my prophetic destiny, in Jesus Name.
Knowing what God calls us is key to living out our destiny.
