Distraction

“…Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing… There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her” Luke 10:39-40 & 42.

If you cannot make your life count then you have succeed in wasting your life but your life will not be wasted in Jesus Name. One subject that is noteworthy in making your life count is distraction. Distraction is a very powerful tool. Parents know the power of distraction. In fact, a lot of children are controlled with distractions. Lets imagine a child is just going about the house disturbing everyone and everything, what the parent would simply use to put that child in order is a distraction. And guess what, distractions are powerful enough to steal that child’s total attention. For some parents they just resort to sending the child on several errands that make the child run back and forth until they are totally out of steam. Distractions are very powerful in warfare; every war general knows the power of distraction. If you are a business person or professional seeking to be at the top of your career, you must understand the power of distractions.

In the Book of Judges chapter 20 [please read], the Benjamites were fighting Israel and they had the upper hand in the ongoing battle. So Israel came up with a strategy to go to fight as usual, pretend as if the Benjamites were winning again and run off. This would give Benjamites confidence and lure them out to chase after Israel. But when they are out, Israel will burn down their cities, the sight of their cities on fire will weaken their defense and it worked. They killed a few Israelites but they fell by tens of thousands because they were distracted. Even thieves deploy distraction. There was a warehouse that had everything you can think of but it was consistently recording losses at the end of every month – twenty shovels here and ten ovens there. So they employed a guard and after a while on the job observing every worker he kind of had a hunch who the thief was. So one day the suspect was passing by with a huge sack on a wheelbarrow. The guard immediately apprehended him and asked what is in that sack. The man said sawdust. The guard said do you think I am foolish, empty that sack and true to his word the sack contained nothing but sawdust so he let the man go. It happened the 1st time, 2nd time, 3rd time, 4th time, 5th time and 15th – 20th time. Then one day the guard called the suspect and said we both know you have been stealing something, this is off the record, just tell me what it is. I would not tell anyone but for the sake of my sanity. And the man said I have been stealing wheelbarrows.

Prayer: Precious Spirit of God, strengthen my focus in every area and help me stay focused on my assignment, in Jesus Name.
