“The Fruit” I
“The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too” Gen.3:6.
Sometimes I get upset that Adam and Eve just sold us short because of one fruit. But I realized that it was deeper than that, satan was not selling the fruit to Eve, he was selling the world. And it is because satan knew that as soon as she eats the fruit, there will be something of his that will be deposited in her as a mole. So she cannot say like Jesus would say, the prince of this world comes and has nothing in me because there would have been something in her. He offered Eve the fruit – the world. Theologians all over the world have been arguing that the fruit is an apple, in fact they have so brain washed us that we think it is an apple fruit. Some say it is a mango fruit, others argue that how can anyone fall for a mango fruit, it must be a banana. Some say banana is not sweet enough, how can it be banana it must be pineapple. But the Bible deliberately did not tell us the fruit because your fruit is different from my fruit. I may not like banana and the devil knows so will he bring a banana fruit to me? The enemy knows you do not like pawpaw but he knows you cannot resist mango. So what will he bring to you? But it is not about the mango. He knows that there is something that you crave that is of the world and he knows that it is something that will put you in enmity with God. So he dangles it in front of you and says look can’t you see that God does not really mean you should not eat it? Anytime you begin to reason does God really mean that I cannot…, the devil will be on your case. You need to stop!
And nobody is immune from this, Pastors are not immune from it, we are men of like passions. But you need to understand how the enemy works. While you will notice that there is nothing wrong with beautiful, there is nothing wrong with delicious, and there is nothing wrong with wisdom. God says ask God for wisdom. We know from Scripture that God is big on our enjoyment so there is nothing wrong with being beautiful or desiring to be beautiful. The problem is when you love the gift at the expense of the Giver. A lot of us claim not to love the gift at the expense of the Giver. Guess what, it has become an idol because if you do not have it you feel less of the worth that God has input in you. If there is something that if you do not have you do not feel that you are who God says you are, that thing is a problem.
Prayer: Father, I pray that whatever the enemy has to offer will never be enticing to me, in Jesus Name.
