“One Thing”
“The one thing I ask of the Lord— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple” Ps.27:4
The Principle of Mass is effective on the offense and the defense. A classic example in warfare is the citadel strategy. In the days when cities and countries used to be physically walled, the strategy was to wall the outer perimeter of the city and go further into the city creating three or four concentric circles [walls]. This is so that if the enemy breaks through the first one, the forces will draw to the inner wall. They keep withdrawing until all the forces are concentrated in a place called the citadel. The citadel is a reinforced place, the last line of defense. The cities that have citadels hardly ever fall because of the concentrated force in there. They are able to hold off any kind of attack until an ally comes to rescue them.
How does this apply to us? The question is what is the one thing you must not lose even if you were to lose everything else? And if you do not lose it, from that one thing you can rebuild every other thing. What is that one thing? I discovered mine years ago and it has saved my life. I discovered my one thing as a Christian, as a business man, as a husband, and in the different phases of my life. You need to discover your “one thing”.
I will tell you what your one thing should be as a Christian because it is the same for all of us. If they strip you of everything, one thing you should never lose as a Christian, your citadel – your last line of defense is your relationship with Jesus. You must guard it with your life. Personally, I have gone through a whole lot in the past but because, by the grace of God, that one thing that citadel of power was protected, I was able to bounce back and do better.
They may take your job but make sure they do not take your relationship with Jesus. You may be stripped of your title but do not let anyone strip you of your relationship with Jesus. You may lose your car but do not lose your ability to hear from God. Why? Because as long as you can go before God and connect with your Father, have fellowship and hear Him, you will be fine. So I beg you, no matter what life throws at you, do not turn your back to God. God is the surest thing in your life. Even if you lose everything, as long as you continue to hear from God, you will regain everything.
Prayer [song]: Everything (2x), Lord You are everything to me. My treasure, my priority, who can compare with You. Great is the measure of Your royalty. O Morning Star, You truly are everything! Amen.
