Bless Them

But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! Matt.5:44

Jesus commands that you pronounce blessings especially on those who persecute you. And while He was being crucified Jesus embodied this teaching. Even love requires a deliberate effort; no doubt it would be difficult but love says be kind to the people that persecute you. Take it a step further and bless them. “You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in Heaven. For He gives His sunlight to both the evil and the good, and He sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that”. Are you being persecuted in your marriage, then bless and do not curse. Whether you like it or not, you reap what you sow, even with your enemies. Your husband has been nasty, bless him; your boss has been persecuting you because you refused to give into his sexual advances, the scriptures say bless; your friends who you spent days caring for in times of trouble have abandoned you, bless them and keep praying for them. With typical human nature, there is extremely odd behavior but with God it is a Kingdom requirement. Your prayers must not be motivated by vengeance because vengeance belongs to God. Make it a point to bless, from your heart, all those who hurt you. Pronounce blessings on people inspite of your pain. At the cross, if Jesus had said something wrong, it could have affected resurrection. Let your mouth only speak life and blessings just like your Father.

Thought: Who have you been cursing; through the help of the Holy Spirit start to pronounce blessings on them now.

Prayer: Father, by the power of Your Life Giving Spirit, I pronounce blessings on my enemies. Not my will but Yours be done.
