God Alone!

“Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.”  Eph. 4:2 [TLB, emphasis added]

An anonymous quote reads, “You do not need a perfect relationship, you need someone who would not give up on you”. Will you be that person that would not give up on your loved ones? Go to God with disappointments and give it to God. The root of disappointment is expecting from a person what only God can deliver. When you expect from a person what only God can deliver, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. You are setting yourself up for disappointment when you expect another human being to be perfect.

Only God is perfect. You are setting yourself up for disappointment when you expect someone to always be there for you. There is no human being on earth that can always be there for you; only God can. You expect someone, a human being, never to fail you. Do you want to kill the person? No human has that capacity. The only person that does not fail is God. This may shock some people, particularly those that are yet to get married. But those that are married are familiar with the fact that there is no human being on earth that can fully satisfy you. None!

The only person that has the capacity to fully satisfy you is the Holy Spirit [God]. So to demand from a man or woman what only God can supply, is idolatry because it is like turning the person into a god. And the converse is also the case; the only person that you can fully satisfy is God. It is not possible for you to fully satisfy your spouse. So do not kill yourself; do your best and leave the rest to God. It is tough, again because we do not hear these things often, but it is the truth. Do not set yourself up for a huge crash. When your heart is in the right place, then your relationships become easy. And it is because you are not placing a demand on any human being what only God can deliver. You are placing what God can deliver only at God’s doorstep.

In every relationship, even in your relationship with God, you always have a choice to bale-out or to stick-it-out. So what will it be? Every relationship has its promise and its problems. You enjoy the promise but do you bale out when the problems come? When you stick it out because it will pass, you will have a story to tell.

Prayer: Father, help me not to look to man for what only You can give me, in Jesus Name.
