Understanding Sovereignty
‘But even if He doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up’ Daniel 3:18
The Sovereignty of God is something Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego understood so well. God is Sovereign; He can choose not to deliver us because He is God. This is an aspect a lot of Christians do not understand about God. You have heard a lot of faith preaching that attempts to rubbish the Sovereignty of God. God is Sovereign; He can choose to fold His hands and watch. Does that change the fact that He is God? Not at all and everything He does is in righteousness. It takes the Holy Spirit to have understanding about God’s Sovereignty. These young men were saying in essence, we understand the Sovereignty of our God and regardless of His response in the midst of our crisis we are sold out to Him. What are you compromising Jesus for or what do you think that you need to sustain with your power? It will fail you; God’s Word says ‘the arm of flesh will fail’. The only thing that can keep you is God’s grace. For you to walk with God successfully, your life must consistently be on the altar. You must be willing to let God be God even if you die. Otherwise Christianity will just be like mere religion or social gathering. In other words, they were letting the king know that if God does not deliver them, He has not diminished in power or in ability. Some of us think that because God appears to be slow in certain areas, it means He has diminished in power. Definitely not! The king instructed that the furnace be heated seven times hotter. Perhaps God intended to perfect their faith. Instead of the fire to kill them, it burnt all their shackles. Our Sovereign God also has complete control over fire. The fire you are going through right now cannot kill you, believe God. It is designed to burn off the shackles. You are going to come out of this fire, you have to make up your mind to come out of the fire even if it takes prayer and fasting.
Prayer: Lord, by Your Spirit deepen my understanding of Your Sovereignty. Help me trust You beyond my understanding and what the present circumstances appear to be, in Jesus Name.
