I am putting forward a question to you, so here goes. Are you going to spend your one and only life fishing for the small fish or are you going to invest it in fishing for the big fish? It is always going to be about the big fish or the small fish. You choose! Jesus was saying to Peter, James, and John, and is saying to us today, you have to choose whether you are going to be catching the small fish or the human sized fish. It is either fish-fish or human-fish. Jesus is asking you and I, the doctors, teachers, accountants, lawyers, students, business men, and professionals reading this today; are you going to throw your one life into pursuing small fish or will you toss in your net in anticipation of catching bigger fish?. Those who have answered this question correctly have only one reaction and it is very similar to that of Peter, James, and John – they left everything and followed Jesus’.

If you look at the pattern of the model for evangelism, it is largely relational. Relational, meaning we develop friendships, we discover stories, and discern one next step after the other until the person accepts Jesus. All this takes time. The only way you can persist in fishing for the big fish is if you have successfully confronted yourself with the question and answered it leading to the same reaction that Peter, James and John had.

I just want to mention at this time that sometimes God can ask you to talk to somebody you don’t know about Jesus because God knows why. Sometimes it is because the person is going to pass away any moment but sometimes it is not. God can ask you to stand up in front of a room full of strangers or your class and talk about Jesus. I once witnessed someone stand in front of an amphitheater packed full with students who were all talking at the same time and began to preach Jesus. The whole amphitheater went silent. He held everyone spell bound, even all we rebellious folks. Even though I didn’t surrender to Jesus that day but I never forgot the experience and I never forgot the young man’s face. What is it going to be?

Prayer: Father, I pledge beginning today to invest focused time to fishing for men, in Jesus Name.

‘For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught… James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed.
