Someone also mentioned that he had seen a piece that sold for as much as $32,000. The reality is that clay itself is worthless. It is the worth that the potter inputs unto the work that gives it value. The clay itself cannot derive value, except the value that the potter attributes to it. The same goes for you; on your own you can do nothing. Jesus says, ‘without Me you can do nothing. But all things are possible to them who believe’. The Christian journey in the hands of the Potter is not a journey of understanding. We do not always know what God is going to do, how He is going to do what He is going to do, or when He is going to do it. The Christian journey is really a journey of trust and God is asking you to trust Him. Trust His intentions for you and His future for you because His plans are forever good.

In Jeremiah 18:1-6, when God told Jeremiah to go to the potter’s house, the pottery that the potter was making got marred [polluted] and the potter had to start his entire work again. If you watch how the potter makes a piece, you will notice that they start off by putting the clay on the wheel and putting their hands inside the clay as they begin to mold clay. That is symbolic of how God has His hands in our lives as He molds us. He is part of what we are going through and He is part of what we are becoming. Sometimes the potter molds something that looks perfect to the untrained eye. Left to us, the untrained eye, the potter has gotten the right shape and the work is beautiful. We say to the potter ‘please just stop, leave it, and don’t touch it anymore’. But the potter slows down the wheel and examines the work. As far as we are concerned that piece is ready. We get anxious because we don’t want him to mistakenly spin the wheel and flatten out the clay again. But no trained potter ever takes the pottery off the wheel as it forms without slowing it down and taking a look at it. God sees beyond what your eyes can see; so be patient while He works on you.

Prayer: Father, thank You for choosing to do a work in me and with me.
