And then there are people like David that have significant legacies. Even if you look at Solomon, the temple that Solomon built today is not standing. God told David not to worry about building the temple because his son will build it. “Your legacy is going to be bigger than that”. Let us delve deeper and examine what David would forever be remembered for, from generation to generation and I dare say for eternity. David would b remembered for two major things. First is the Book of Psalms. David left the Book of Psalms and it exists from generation to generation. For many of us, God has said “I have taken you through this, write a book” but we are sleeping our time away. David’s legacy stands. David wrote more than half of the Book of Psalms but David did not write the entire Book of Psalms. David compiled the entire Book of Psalms. But David did something that is very significant and an example to follow. David gave credit to whom credit was due [example. Ps.119]. David was the king, he could easily have altered history, he could have manipulated things to suit himself. But David gave credit to everyone that contributed to the Book of Psalms. David gave credit to Moses; Asaph [even though Asaph was one of the psalmists in the Tabernacle of David that was set up by David]; the sons of Korah [they were like instrumentalists in the Tabernacle]. The greatest men have a heart for other people’s greatness in their Book. Do you know what small men would do? Small men will try and erase the names of Asaph, the sons of Korah, Moses and so on and will compile all the Psalms as their own. Not David, he gave credit to the people who composed the Psalms. It is funny to see people lift off my sermons or quotes and pass it off as their own on social media. Don’t get me wrong – it really doesn’t bother me. But take note; a small mind needs to steal other people’s work but a great mind creates his own work. When a great mind has to use other people’s work, it gives credit because it is great in itself.

Prayer: Father, let the greatness of my legacy be linked to the strength of my walk with You, in Jesus Name.

‘The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.’ Ps.16:6. We have learnt that there are people who have no legacy, there are those wasting their time with non-significant legacies.
