David was specific about what he was repenting for. People come to God to confess their sins and they say, “O Lord, You know I’ve been a bad boy/girl, forgive me of all my sins”. And they want to move on meanwhile God is saying, “I am ready to forgive you but which one?” They say, “Lord if I were to list all my sins I would be wasting Your time”. God says, “I have time”. You need to come clean for your own sake and not because God does not know. Yes you have said you are sorry but what exactly are you sorry for? For instance, someone steals your pen and then comes to say sorry to you but he is still holding the pen. True repentance recognizes sin as sin and it comes clean. When you refuse to come clean, you are leaving the back door open for the enemy to come back in. And because you have not come clean, he can sneak in at anytime.

Thirdly, true repentance breaks your heart. That’s the key. ‘The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit.
You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God’ Ps.51:17. That is largely the difference between mere confession and true repentance. Some say, “But the Word of God says that if I confess my sins before God… I’ve confessed before God and I’ve moved on”. I laugh because when the Bible says confess, it means he that covers his sin shall not what prosper, but he that confesses and forsakes will have mercy. You say you have confessed but why do you keep going back? The truth is that all you’ve done is confess but you have not repented. True repentance will break your heart. And it is at that point where your heart breaks that the miracle happens. I’m telling you as someone that has received grace through true repentance. After I gave my life to Jesus, I found myself back in fornication because I did not cut off certain access that I had previously allowed. But this time it was different; I would fornicate and feel bad. I summoned up the courage, cutoff the access and I was broken before God. I did not know how I would survive the next day without fornication. But I had found repentance by the grace of God and I survived the next day, the next week, and the next six years until I got married. That’s a miracle that only God can do.

Prayer: Oh God, Let me experience true repentance that delivers me in, Jesus Name.
