The Word of God did not say that Jesus has 50% grace and 50% truth. Jesus is full of grace and truth, which means He has 100% grace and 100% truth. Unfortunately, we tilt in either direction as Christians. In fact, we have churches that build their thrust around a particular direction. So it’s not uncommon to see a church that claims to be a grace church. They insist that Jesus came so that we would have grace. And grace is beautiful because we all are here because of grace. But they sacrifice truth on the altar of grace and at best what they have is a caricature of what a Christian should be. On the other side of the spectrum, we have the churches or the Christians that say they are focused on the truth. You will hear them make statements like, ‘you will hear the unadulterated Word of God.’ But they sacrifice grace on the altar of truth and at best they have a caricature of what a Christian should be. What we now have is two caricatures claiming to be like Christ. But Christ says to us that He is full of grace and truth. That means for you to have the fullness of Christ, you must walk in the fullness of grace and truth. Jesus did not say, you need to choose between grace and truth. If you want Jesus, you are going to have to embrace both grace and truth. Jesus didn’t put a condition on grace and he didn’t water down the truth either.

In John 8, there’s a fantastic story about the woman caught in adultery. They were about to stone her and they said to Jesus, this is what Moses said but what say you? [translated]. And Jesus said, if you are without sin throw the first stone and from the oldest to the youngest they dropped their stones. You remember the story right? Jesus said to the lady, where are your accusers? The lady said they are gone and Jesus said, neither do I accuse you. In other words, you are free – that is grace. No preconditions given for her freedom. Then Jesus went ahead and said to her, go and sin no more – that is truth. Jesus did not water down the truth in order to offer grace. Jesus offered grace and he didn’t water the truth. Jesus said, you are free, go and sin no more. What Jesus was saying in essence is what you did was wrong; however, you are free but don’t do that again. He gave her a full dose of both grace and truth. Jesus is not about balancing grace and truth. Some of us struggle to balance grace and truth. It’s not about a balancing act of grace and truth. When you experience Jesus, you are experiencing a full dose of grace and a full dose of truth.

Prayer: Father, I choose to walk in the fullness of the grace and truth in Christ Jesus, in Jesus Name.

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
