Jehoash’s father, during his reign as king, did not serve God and God was angry with him. However, he passed on and Jehoash came into power. You would think that a son would learn from his father’s mistakes but inadvertently most sons just repeat their father’s errors. I am praying that you will not repeat your father’s errors in Jesus Name. Jehoash continued in the errors of his father but when it dawned on him that his life was going to be at the mercy of the Syrian army, he sought help from above. Jehoash ran to the God of heaven, he ran to Elisha, and sought help from above. Some weeks ago we looked at Hannah.

In Hannah’s case, she got the help from above. Jehoash got some help but he did not quite get all the help that was available to him. I am praying again for you, that you will get all that is available to you from heaven. You will get total victory and not get partial victory, in Jesus Name. So it is instructive to look at what happened to Jehoash and learn from what actually went wrong. Afterall, all these things are written for our own examples. How can we ensure that we do not fall where Jehoash fell and that we do not make the same mistakes Jehoash made?

Please read and study 2 Kings 13:14-20. Two things bother me every time I read this portion of scripture even though I have comfort from the Lord and answers to them. The first thing that bothers me is the fact that Elisha, the man of God, was sick. It just did not add up to me. In fact, he was not just sick, the scriptures say “his last illness”, which means he had been falling sick. Why should that be? Elisha was so anointed that even his dead bones could bring the dead back to life. But Elisha was sick unto death. I mean that should bother you. But the bottom line is that it is possible.

I know some people will say that this is the Old Testament, we are in the New Testament. Elisha walked in the reality of God more than a lot of the “New Testament Christians”. He walked in the reality of the power of the Holy Spirit more than a lot of us that have a better covenant. But again, our covenant is the answer. Even though we do not walk in the fullness of our covenant, our covenant has made provision for us not to be at the mercy of illness. I am not saying that it is impossible to get ill. I am saying that Jesus took upon Himself our infirmities [Isa.53:5].

Prayer: Father, I pray that I will not repeat the errors of my fathers and I pray that my children and their children will not repeat the errors of their fathers, in Jesus Name.

“When Elisha was in his last illness, King Jehoash of Israel visited him and wept over him. “My father!
