Jesus was on the cross, in pain and He still had compassion and a sense of responsibility towards His mother. Many times people use the pressures of life, work, or career as excuses to be nasty to their spouse, friends and even family. Some people go as far as using such pressure as excuses from responsibilities. Not Jesus, He was going through what could very well be described as the worst moment of His life. He would have been justified in the eyes of the world to snap at His mother out of irritation but Jesus showed love. He still cared at the point of His greatest pain and disappointment. Jesus reached out to His mother in a loving relationship. Becoming the person that God wants you to really and truly be is a lot of work. From Jesus’ example, we can deduce that it requires settling another while you are waiting to be settled yourself. Jesus could have used the excuse of His predicament to put pressure on His family or neglect His relationships. Some fathers return home and everybody scurries to hide, because he is under pressure and someone must take a hit. ‘Nothing can be right to the man who is seeking for a fight’. Not Jesus! He still extended care to His mother inspite of the pain. John 14:18a [KJV], ‘I will not leave you comfortless’. Jesus in many ways said these same words [a promise] to Mary at the cross. He said the same words [a promise] to the disciples. Jesus is saying these same words [a promise] to us today. Jesus always cares about what we are going through. ‘I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you’ John 14:18 [KJV]. A promise fulfilled in Jesus as He reestablishes our relationship with the Father by dying on the cross and sending us the Comforter.
