Even spiritually, you are young only once. Sadly, there are people that are thirty years old spiritually but immature. Meanwhile, some people, barely two years after getting saved, reach maturity. What usually is the difference? The young and matured are hungry for God and fired up. The old but spiritually immature have no desire for God. Heaven needs you to grow up because the ‘immature you’ is not very useful. Grow up! We need you on the table mature!

My favourite character ever in the Bible is Jesus. I am fascinated by His life and all He did. My second favourite character in the Bible is David. One of David’s greatest strengths is owning up. David always owned up. When he was a shepherd boy in his father’s house, he showed up and was responsible. Saul gave David his armory to fight goliath but David owned up. He said, “Sir, that is not me. I appreciate your effort but I cannot do that. Let me tell you a story sir. A lion came to attack my sheep and I killed the lion. A bear came to attack my sheep and I killed it. The same God that killed the lion and the bear through me, will kill this goliath”.

Many people would have accepted and worn Saul’s armory. After all it is an honour to be singled out by the king, to go to war in the king’s armor and they would even testify about such “an honour”. Such things can cost you your head in battle [your life]. But David refused. When he was before goliath, David owned up. “You come before me with a sword and a spear? I have come against you in the Name of the Lord of Hosts whose army you have defiled.” He said, “You are uncircumcised. I am circumcised”.

David was not afraid to own up even before his brothers. He said, “You are here to watch the war but I am here to kill this goliath.” They called him a proud little boy. Sometimes when you begin to own up, people will misrepresent it as arrogance. Ignore it! When David was before God, after sleeping with Bathsheba, he owned up and asked for God’s mercy.

Prayer: Jesus, I acknowledge that You are God all by Yourself and I acknowledge my need for You, in Jesus Name.
