Family Harmony

Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Phil.2:2

God calls teams in every family; between the couple, between siblings and the entire family. The term harmony derives from the Greek ρμονία (harmonía), meaning ‘joint, agreement, concord’, from the verb ρμόζω (harmozo), ‘to fit together, to join’. The dictionary definition of harmony means ‘a pleasing combination of elements in a whole’. For a family to experience harmony, all of the parts must be working together as a whole. It is only in this agreeable state that all parts of the team can achieve the fullness of God’s purposes. Marital harmony is between husband and wife. If you are married I am trusting God to take your union to a higher level. And if you are single, I think you are better positioned because you are learning these things before you engage. Marital harmony affects family harmony directly. Two people cannot have harmony in marriage if they are going in different directions (Amos 3:3). You have to be going in the same direction to be holding hands. We have people who are married, live in the same house but are going in different directions because one person has refused to do things for the greater good and now is focused on personal interests. So we have Di-Vision (double vision), division/cracks, destroy the harmony in the family. Sibling Rivalry is a major cause of lack of harmony in homes. The most dangerous are fights between brothers and sister. It can be so far reaching that it can tear a whole house apart and even a nation apart. For the next few days we shall be examining the elements of harmony and how it applies to our families. We will be channeling our efforts towards gaining understanding that leads to a God approved response.

Prayer: Father, I ask that by Your Spirit, You help to unite everyone in my home; ‘agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose’.
