God Thirsts
‘…I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink…’ Matt. 25:35
God thirsts – amazing right? Jesus said ‘I thirst’ when He was on the cross, scripture records that He said this in fulfillment of prophecies. Jesus said these words perhaps also because it was significant of what is important to the Father. As we have observed that Jesus spent His dying moments stressing things of utmost importance. To thirst is to desire, to crave; Desire and craving are words that suggest a very strong emotion. You thirst for what is deeply important to you. We are created in God’s image and likeness. So we can feel thirst because God has put it in us so we can understand what He calls for when He expresses this feeling in relation to us. Jesus had highlighted forgiveness, salvation, relationship and unbroken link to the Father as deeply important in His dying moment. The words of a dying man, a dying man that is God, are to be taken very seriously. Again the state Jesus was in was not one where talking was particularly easy. Therefore, His last seven words are deeply significant to every Christian. Today we will examine these words in light of this importance. God still thirsts today; He thirsts for something in your life and mine. Out of all that is available to you, what are you going to give Him to drink? God thirsts [desires, craves] for an intercessor, ‘…I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall…’ Ezekiel 22:30b. God thirsts [desires, craves] for a worshiper, ‘…The Father is looking for those who will worship Him that way’ John 4:23b. Do you go for a week without going on your knees in worship to God? When was the last time you prayed for someone and that God’s Kingdom will come? God is thirsty for a relationship; Jesus who came and died for us desires a walk with us. What are you going to give Him, water, vinegar or you?
Prayer [song]: Lord I give You my heart, I give You my soul; I live for You alone. Every breath that I take, every moment I’m awake Lord have Your way in me, in Jesus Name.
