Why Fast: Part 1

‘Paul and Barnabas also appointed elders in every church. With prayer and fasting, they turned the elders over to the care of the Lord, in whom they had put their trust’ Acts 14:23

Your motive provides you with the motivation to engage spiritually. Fasting is a spiritual exercise which when embarked on with the right motives yields bountiful results. Why are you doing what you are doing? Over the next few days, we will be outlining eight reasons every Christian should engage in whole hearted fasting. Today we will examine the first two reasons. Why fast?

Medical Reasons: Fasting comes with immense medical values. The physicians tell us that when you fast, your body detoxifies itself. All the toxins in your blood stream get expunged from your system and your body is able to function better. God wants to use you here on earth and your body is your vehicle. Fasting in a sense helps you take care of your body. Physically, some people have never looked better compared to when they are fasting. However, your motive for fasting has to be Jesus and not the benefits. Otherwise you risk losing the spiritual results. Your focus should not be on the time when you break but on God and your heightened spiritual senses when you abstain from food [Read Daniel 1]

You go Further Faster: Jesus could do all He did in His ministry because He began with a 40days fast [Luke 4:1-2]. Are you about to begin your career, business, project or a commitment? Follow Jesus’ example and experience tremendous acceleration. I am not saying go on a 40days fast but if this is the direction God is leading you then be sure to engage whole heartedly. Whenever you are fasting, praying and truly seeking God the amount of angelic activity that is deployed on your behalf increases. The amount of potency the angels have increases [Ps.103:20] and that is the reason for acceleration in any endeavor. You also go further faster when you spend dedicated time with God.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I ask for a deeper understanding of fasting. I pray for the grace to engage and pray as I ought to by Your Spirit. Help me obey when You lead in this direction, in Jesus Name.
