Why Fast: Part 4

‘Then I pray to you, O LORD. I say, “You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life’ Psalm 142:5.

Building a Refuge: When you fast, you are building a refuge around yourself. The best time to build a refuge is when there is peace. Fasting [building a refuge] is being proactive; it is like saving for the rainy day. Fasting increases spiritual activity. ‘For the angel of the LORD is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear HimPs.34:7. When you engage in fasting you build a wall of protection around your life, career, family, destiny and even your future. ‘The LORD is close to all who call on Him, yes, to all who call on Him in truthPs.145:18.  Everyone will go through stuff but it is the strength that you have built that will sustain you. ‘If you fail under pressure, your strength is too smallProv.24:10. You cannot afford to wait until trials come before you start to seek God. Job’s wife said to him, see all that has happened to you, curse God and die. If Job had not built a personal refuge in God, he would have cursed God and gone to hell. Some people experience just a small discomfort or change of plans and they begin to curse God in their hearts. It is because their strength is small. You have to build strength before adversity because adversity will arise. As you fast, your strength will increase because you already have the Word to calm the storms. ‘Fast so that you will not have to fast’. Do not pretend to engage in fasting just because you want to look good before people. The fact that everything around you is good now, you are doing well and you do not seem to have issues in your life is no reason to hang your boots. You need to fast so that when challenges come you will sail through. Fast to sustain the peace that you are currently enjoying. Learn from Jesus, He did not wait until satan showed up or till He was on the cross. Jesus also built a refuge by fasting before He began His ministry. And because you will fast, you will sail through in Jesus Name.

Prayer: Father, I pray that Your Word and Your angels will encamp round about me in Jesus Name. I pray that as I seek Your face, You will build a refuge round about me in Jesus Name.
