Overcome Evil With Good

‘Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing can make them stumble’ Psa.119:165 [KJV].

Vengeance is for God. Joseph learnt this key early and it helped him deal with the pain of betrayal. ‘But Joseph replied, Don’t be afraid of me. Am I God, that I can punish you?  You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people’ Gen.50:19-20. Failure to understand this truth will result in you becoming vindictive. Being vindictive is allowing iniquity dwell in your heart. When iniquity dwells in your heart, God will not hear you. When you get to the point where you become consumed with plots to repay hurt you are heading along the path to destruction. They might mean it for bad, but you stay a lover of God and enjoy the guarantee that it will work in your favour. Being vindictive is living in a place of continuous unrest. When all you see is revenge, you are setting yourself up to stumble. Vengeance belongs to God; are you God? Choose to forget instantly or to refuse to be offended and you have chosen a life of great peace and firm standing. Convert the time you would have spent plotting for the person into praying for the person. Prayer changes everything because it releases God’s wisdom into your circumstance. When you make a conscious effort to pray for the person despite the hurt, you give God a chance to heal your heart and kill the root of offence in your life. When you pray it means you are telling God to have His way. When you start to pray for those who hurt you a number of things will happen. God will grace you for that person. Then God will start to show you things about yourself that you also need to deal with. In other cases, God will show you how you can help the person. The only way to overcome evil is to purpose to do good! Another solution to offence is the law of God – the Word. God’s greatest commandment is love: love God and love your neighbors. The solution to offence is love. In other words, the solution to offence is Jesus.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I lay down every hurt before You. Purge me of every offence that has taken roots in me. Fill my heart with Your love so that I will overcome in love, in Jesus Name.
