Unfulfilled Expectations From Others
‘I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the LORD, who made Heaven and earth!’ Ps.121:1-2
‘Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there’ Ps.146:3. In other words, you need to know that people will let you down. It is guaranteed. You don’t even need to do anything specific for people to let you down. Some people start out with good intentions but they eventually let you down. Erroneously, people think that the only way they can succeed is when they travel abroad. They put all their hopes in their family or friends who have promised to help them. But they are setting themselves up for disappointments [Jer.17:5]. Your help is not from abroad; your help is from above. The solution to the burden of unfulfilled expectations from others is simple; God and God alone is your source. Knowing this will deliver you completely from unfulfilled expectations from others. This is a truth you need to tell yourself daily. Stop being angry at that uncle that said he would send your school fees and has not done so even though you know he has the money. He is not your source. People will spend time in prayer groups praying for help from abroad. Listen, if God chooses to use your brother praise God but let your focus be on God not in the person he is using. The man at the pool of Bethesda was talking to the Source but he still had his eyes focused on help of man. Salvation only came to him when he recognized who his source is. Who says you need to have that promotion to be financially liberated? One of the key principles of attracting wealth is that God is your source. Even though your job pays well, your job is not your source. It is God who has chosen to bless you through that job. The fact that your husband is able to supply your needs does not make him your source. God and God alone is your source. Keeping your eyes on God is the only way to offload the baggage of unfilled expectations. Understand that God can bless you thorough any channel or anyone but never substitute the channels with God. God alone is your source.
Thought: But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God. Ps.146:5
Prayer: Lord, You alone are my source. My Counselor, my Helper, my Advocate, my Provider, my Manager. You alone are Lord over my life, in Jesus Name.
