Housing The Holy Spirit
‘Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.’1Cor.6:19-20
It will be very beneficial to us Christians to study the instructions God gave to Moses when he was setting up the Tabernacle [the place of meeting] in Exodus [Ex.25-40]. You will see how much detail God put into the Tabernacle just because it was a meeting place for Him and His people. God put the same detail into creating you and saving you. This same God has now chosen your body as His dwelling place. It will help you understand better what it means for Christ Jesus to dwell in your heart. What it means to carry the Spirit of God in your earthly vessel. You and I did not merit it but it was God who chose to make our vessels His dwelling place. You were bought with a price and your body does not belong to you anymore. Your role is like that of the priests of old, to keep the temple holy and fit for God to dwell in. ‘…I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him’ Rom.12:1. What kind of house have you been giving the Holy Spirit to dwell in? Just as it pleases the Holy Spirit when your vessel is acceptable, that is the same way it grieves Him when you mess His dwelling place. You cannot just do with your body as you please. ‘God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple’ 1 Cor.3:17. The Holy Spirit is not in you to condemn you but to help you attain the stand that God requires. Holiness is achievable but only by the strength that the Spirit provides. ‘And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words’ Romans.8:26. When you make your body a home for the Holy Spirit, you are guaranteed comfort, divine counsel, help, an advocate, an intercessor, a strengthener, and a standby. What great treasure we have in us, mere vessels of clay.
Thought: Devote time to worshiping and honoring the Holy Spirit today.
Prayer: Precious Holy Spirit, I appreciate who You are to me. You are indeed my everything. Teach me daily how to offer my body as a dwelling acceptable to You, in Jesus Name.
