Honour God

Honour the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce’ Prov.3:9

God does not need our money but He wants us to honour Him. Why, because there are blessings attached to honouring God. Giving is a way of honouring God [Prov.3:9]. It is wisdom to honour God with our wealth because we know that nothing happens unless God approves it. Yet even with giving some approaches are more honourable. The principle of tithing and first-fruits are principles of honour. Honouring God with our wealth is broken down into three aspects.

  • First-fruit Sacrifice: This usually refers to the first money you make in the year. People have different views about paying first-fruit. The truth is that how far you get with God depends on you. It is a sacrifice that is strictly based on your conviction and the level you want to get to with God. If you choose not to honour God with your first fruits, He will not destroy you. Yet the blessings that come with first-fruit sacrifice only rest upon those who honour God with their first-fruits.
  • First-fruit of Increase: You previously earned ‘X’ amount. Then you get a promotion or boost in sales which results in a 20% increase. The first-fruit of increase is that 20%, which you can give to God.
  • Tithe: Tithe is a type of first-fruit. Your tithe is the first 10% of your income. Right priority, right sequence. Tithing is a command and not a suggestion. There are blessings attached to tithing. Failure to tithe would mean an open door to the devourer in your finances. Jesus says don’t test God. Yet with tithe God says test Me. Pay your tithe in your local assembly.

Honor God with everything you have. Honor Him with who you are because we are less than nothing without God.

Prayer: Father, You are my source. I will honor You with my life, with my money, with my time, and with everything I am and will ever be, in Jesus Name.
