The Wilderness
‘Then the Lord said to Moses, “look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you. Each day the people can go out and pick up as much food as they need for that day…’ Ex.16:4
At a point in my walk with God, the gospel I knew and we preached was ‘give your life to Jesus and all your problems will go away’. However, the truth is that is not the gospel at all. Unfortunately some people are still preaching that. Jesus says ‘in this world you will have tribulations but be of good cheer because I have overcome the world’. The gospel is that through Christ you will overcome. It is not that you will not have challenges, you will, but you will overcome. A lady I knew accepted the gospel of ‘give your life to Jesus and all your problems will go away’. And as soon as things did not go the way she expected, she got upset at Jesus and upset at everyone. She practically kicked everyone out and no one could talk to her. I am hoping that she has found Christ again and she is walking with God. The problem was that she was used to closing her eyes and miracles would fall from heaven. That is manna, when you are in the wilderness, all you have to do is close your eyes and miracles will fall from heaven. Meanwhile someone who is in the Promised Land has to sow, till, and believe God for a harvest. You cannot be in the wilderness and be looking down on the person in the Promised Land. Bragging that all you need to do is close your eyes and miracles will fall from heaven. The only reason you don’t need to sow before you get manna is because you are in the wilderness. I am praying you do not get too comfortable and remain in the wilderness. When you come out of the wilderness then you will discover that there is seed time and harvest time. Yet the truth remains, whether in the wilderness or in the Promised Land, God always comes through for those who trust in Him. The wilderness usually is a training ground. God takes us through the wilderness route for various reasons. For the children of Israel it was to rid them of the slave mentality and help them focus on God alone. Learn what God is teaching you while you are in the wilderness and also know that there is life beyond the wilderness.
Prayer: Father, I thank You for manna in the wilderness. And I ask for the grace to learn the lessons You are teaching me and move beyond the wilderness, in Jesus Name.
