Vitality II

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faintIsa.40:31 [KJV].

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength’. How do you wait upon the Lord? People’s first response to this question is prayer and fasting. Yet it is possible to fast and pray and not wait upon the Lord. Fasting should automatically lead to waiting upon the Lord but it doesn’t in all cases. We can learn how to wait upon the Lord by examining the behavior of a waiter in a proper restaurant. The waiter is like your servant throughout your stay in that restaurant. From the minute you sit down at the table to eat until the time you pay the bill, the waiter is at your beck and call. They attend to your every need and even when you think they are not there, they are watching and waiting to see what your next need would be. As soon as you lift your head he approaches to serve you. If the waiter does his job well and brings the bill you want to live a good tip right? This is the posture God expects us to assume in waiting on Him. What does God want – worship – you worship Him. Thanks – you give Him thanks. If you do a good job at His beck and call, He is going to leave you a big tip. A tip that is big enough to sort out all your meals. This is what it means in a sense to wait upon the Lord; like the eagle, at the mercy of the creator. If God does not breathe upon the eagle for renewal, the eagle will die. Similarly when we wait upon the Lord, if He doesn’t show up, we are in trouble.

We need to be renewed in strength physically by eating well, exercising, and resting. We need to be renewed in strength intellectually by reading good books and the Bible, plus listening to messages. We need to be renewed in character by having accountability. There has to be someone you are accountable to especially in areas where you are struggling. We need to be renewed in strength emotionally by waiting on the Lord in the areas where we tend to slip. And guess what the more you practice that, the stronger you will become emotionally.

Prayer: Father, teach me how to wait on You for spiritual, physical, intellectual, character, and emotional renewal daily, in Jesus Name.
