Will You Play The Fool?
‘And he changed his behavior before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard’ 1 Sam.21:13
David in a bid to escape Saul found himself in danger of loosing his life before Abimelech and he demonstrated hallelujah and got free. Hallelujah means to change behavior suddenly, it means to feign madness. [Read 1 Sam.21:10-15]. It was after this that David wrote Psalm 34. The summary before Psalm 34 reads ‘A psalm of David, regarding the time he pretended to be insane in front of Abimelech, who sent him away’. ‘I will bless [barak] the Lord at all times: his praise [tehillah] shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast [halal] in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad’ Ps.34:1-2 [KJV]. A while back, a friend of mine had been trusting God for the fruit of the womb for years. He had prayed and fasted and nothing happened. So my friend said before God ‘until this woman gives birth, I’m not going to shave my beard’. And his beard began to grow, even I was concerned and his only response was hallelujah. Guess what his wife conceived and gave birth. Even though he was looking like a mad man but it was before the Lord. How badly do you desire that miracle? How badly do you want to get out of that fix? Many times God is just watching to see if you can play the fool. For some of us it is an attitudinal change. Can you be the person in that marriage who plays the fool? The truth is that is the beginning of the salvation of the marriage. Personally, I had to also feign madness before the Lord for a customer who had refused to pay back what he owed my business and my family. This same guy who will not pay back for months ran to our gate that same day to pay us back. When I was doing the hallelujah my wife was shocked, she feared for my sanity. Guess what it was before the Lord so I decided to play the fool. Hallelujah activates angels [Ps.34:7]. David was seeking to bring angels to his rescue and he feigned madness. In his heart David was doing it before the Lord. God sent rescue for him and David was set free. Are you willing to play the fool before God?
Thought: ‘Worship God if you want the best; worship opens doors to all his goodness’ Ps.34:9 [MSG]
Prayer: ‘I bless God every chance I get; my lungs expand with his praise… Look at him; give him your warmest smile. Never hide your feelings from him’ Ps.34:1 & 5 [MSG].
