To Direct and Serve
‘Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him’ Matt.4:11 [NKJV].
Angels can give direction. ‘As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. Joseph son of David, the angel said, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit’ Matt.1:20. Only an angel can say this. When we read the Bible, most times we just read the story. We do not really think carefully about the gravity of the story. Imagine you are a young man and there is a lady that you really love and you want to marry. But because you are a child of God you did not fornicate with her rather you treated her with respect. Both of you are looking at getting married. Then one day she comes to you and says ‘Joseph I am pregnant’. Imagine what you will feel. You will feel betrayed and all sorts of emotions. Then you are at home still licking your wounds and an angel appears to you and says ‘Joseph you have to accept that pregnancy because the baby is from the Holy Ghost’. Now if you are reading this and your name is Joseph and your fiancé is pregnant, this does not translate to a word from God. Don’t go and say God has spoken to you today. Angels can and they do give direction [Num.22:21-23].
Angels minister and serve us. ‘Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?’ Heb.1:14 [NIV]. Do you worship your servants? I don’t think so. For those who have house-helps, lets use this as an illustration even though if you understand the arrangement of things angels are not at our beck and call like that. Do you see a house owner kneeling down to greet their house-help? It is not that you should not respect your house-help but it is not likely that you will see such a scene. ‘Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him’ Matt.4:11 [NKJV]. The devil and his demons will leave you alone. Angels will serve and minister to you in Jesus Name. The root word for the word minister is a word that means to be attended to, to be an attendant, to wait upon, to be a waiter. So angels are ministers and servants.
Prayer: Father, I ask that when the need arises that You will send angels to stir me in the right direction, minister strength to me, and serve me, in Jesus Name.
