God’s Heart

‘No, I will not abandon you as orphans –I will come to you’ John 14: 18.

Jesus says ‘…I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to youJohn 14:16-18[NKJV]. Jesus in this portion of scripture was speaking to His disciples saying He will give them another Helper. The word helper in this context also means comforter, encourager, counselor, advocate. God is saying the Holy Spirit is to be to us as a helper, a comforter, and an encourager. For me this translates to mean that if you really have a sound relationship with the Holy Spirit, even though things may try to discourage you, you will find a way of drawing encouragement from the Lord.

There was this great man of God that I really respect and I had the opportunity of meeting him on a corridor. I was ‘star struck’. I planned to just shake his hand and not wash my hand for the next twenty-one days. And the day came, he walked by me, looked at me, I greeted him, he just ignored me and just walked away. I almost backslid because of how crushed I was. So, when I got home, I was talking to the Holy Spirit and complaining bitterly to Him about how badly I treated by a man of God. I will tell you what He said to me because it delivered me totally from men. He said to me ‘have you ever called Me and I ignored you? Have you ever greeted me and I didn’t answer you? And you know who I am’. I said ‘You are God’. I got the message. What is your problem? A man does not answer you but God is talking to you. Men do not regard you but God regards you and you have a problem with that? You seek the approval of men more than you seek the approval of God?

God wants real communication and relationship with us. He wants us to know that He is interested in every aspect of our lives. And when we go through very low periods and don’t know what to do, we can turn to the Holy Spirit primarily.

Prayer [song]: This is the air I breathe, Your holy presence living in me. This is my daily bread, Your very Word spoken to me. I’m desperate for you. I’m lost without you’. Amen.
