In Need and Indeed
‘I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guard post. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he will answer my complaint.’ Hab.2:1.
When you have a sound relationship with the Holy Spirit even though you may appear helpless, you know that you have help. You know He is your Helper even when people are gathering against you in places you least expect. You know that He is your Advocate; He will speak on your behalf, will fight for you, and defend your case. You know He is your Counselor.
While flipping channels one day, I stumbled on some guy saying that what saddens him the most is that a generation of Christians is rising who don’t know how to seek counsel from the Holy Spirit. People want to get married and they are checking for vital statistics or assessing material possessions. Their primary concern is no longer about what the Holy Spirit is saying about the person. I remember thinking that it is so true. We have abandoned the Counselor and people are looking to compatibility to determine if they can get married or not. They have just been talking to each other for only six weeks yet they have concluded that they are not compatible. What do you know about compatibility? Some are quick to claim that the person did something that shocked them. I have been married to my wife for ten years and she still does things that shock me. That’s the truth and I am sure she will tell you I still shock her too. The point is that we are neglecting the original Counselor. I remember when I wanted to get married there was a lot of noise and confusion where I was. I just asked God what He had to say about her. He did not answer me immediately but I was determined to wait on Him. When you are seeking God it is important to know that He is not at your beck and call. So if you ask Him a question, He does not have to answer. If He doesn’t answer then it is up to you to wait on the Almighty God. I waited but I was watching for what God will say –what the Holy Spirit will say. I will never forget the day He spoke and what He said. For me His counsel was all I needed to hear and I was ready to crush any opposition. What counsel have you received from God? There are no short cuts to waiting on God [Hab.2:3].
Prayer [song]: ‘I will wait on You, Almighty God in the beauty of Your holiness. I will worship You, Almighty God in the beauty of Your holiness’. Amen.
