The Power III
‘So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves’ Gal.5:16.
The truth is that you cannot live a holy life in your strength alone. God is very prudent with resources. If He has given you His Spirit then it is because you need Him to survive. ‘…let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves’. Only the Holy Spirit can give you and I the power to live holy lives. People have said to me that they do not think God is interested in them because they have this incessant desire to do bad things. Can I tell you a secret? Sometimes I also want to do bad things. Don’t be shocked; after all I too am a human being. I’m sure you are wondering how I manage to abstain – the Holy Spirit! ‘…to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace’ Rom.8:6 [KJV]. God says that you should choose what will affect your life. Will you follow the Holy Spirit or will you follow your flesh? Temptation is not sin, temptation just shows that you are alive and you are still on earth. If you find yourself in a place where there is no temptation then you are no longer on earth. Yet God is saying don’t follow the evil desires; follow the Holy Spirit. And as you yield to the Holy Spirit the flesh looses its hold on you. That is why some people appear to be consistently spiritual. They are not –what they have learnt is to consistently follow the Holy Spirit. The day they choose not to then they will discover that they are not spiritual.
The Holy Spirit gives us power to love. ‘…we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love’ Rom.5:5. You cannot give what you don’t have. If you find out that you are not able to love people, you need to receive the Holy Spirit or perhaps be saved. Jesus says this is how people will know we are His disciples, if we love one another. There are some people that are referred to as the ‘EGR’ people. EGR simply means extra grace required to live with them. Some people are easy to get along with while for some their heart is just very nasty. To love those people, to love anybody at all, we need the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, I walk in the fullness of Your power to live a holy life and the power to love people as God loves, in Jesus Name.
