Upright Word

Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body’ 1Cor.6:18

I have encountered a couple of people who are faced with the temptation of sexual sin. Quite a number of men today are being seduced by their best friend’s wife and vice versa. Some initially start out trying to resist the temptation but as time passes, they realize that resisting sexual sin is tougher than most people think. What should you do? Three simple words answer this question – RUN, RUN, RUN! When it comes to the devil, the Bible says submit to God, then resist the devil and he will flee from you. But when it comes to sexual sin, God says ‘run from sexual sin!’ The first point of action is to talk to your legs and run! You don’t resist it. You don’t try to talk the enemy out of it. You run! Running doesn’t really go well with a lot of men because a lot of men want to demonstrate that they are macho. Men want to demonstrate to themselves that they are strong and that she cannot do me anything. Do not focus on proving any point to yourself, instead focus your energy on obeying God’s Word. A hundred years from now, it really will not matter how many points you were able to prove to yourself. What will matter, what can save your life is obeying God’s Word. The Bible did not say resist or prove a point to yourself, it says run! If you are married, after you run, the next step you might want to take prayerfully is to tell your wife. This step may not apply in all cases. Now most men get scared about telling their wives because they know that her natural reaction would be to talk to the other woman. Let your wife have the discussion with her woman to woman, they understand themselves.  Remember the story of Joseph? The woman in that case came up with a lie about sexual harassment against him and who did everyone believe? If you do not discuss it with your wife then who will believe you? Do not attempt to flirt with temptation, ‘let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he falls’. Then perhaps after discussing with your pastor you may want to prayerfully talk to your friend. But the first thing to do is to run!

Prayer [song]: Your Word have I hidden in my heart, that I may not sin against Thee. Your Word is sharper than two-edged sword. You are a Consuming Fire!
